Barbados Marriage Requirements

Barbados Weddings Requirements Planning to get married in the stunning island of Barbados, then you will find that it is very open and simple to complete. The island of Barbados makes a great destination for a picture-perfect wedding. There are no restrictions as to where on the island to get married and your hotel or island wedding planner will be able to help you organize all of the important documents.

Being very easy to tie the knot in Barbados, a marriage license must be applied for in person by both parties at the Ministry of Home Affairs, which is located on the fifth floor of the General Post Office in Cheapside, Bridgetown. In order to attain this marriage license you must apply during the hours of 8:30am and 3:30pm, Mondays to Fridays, with all the relevant documents at hand. A marriage can be solemnized immediately after the license is received. If neither of you are resident of Barbados it will cost US$75 for the license. However if either of you is a Barbadian resident the marriage fee is approximately US$28.

The documents required are proof of age such as valid birth certificates and passports for both parties. If the documents are not in English, a certified translator must be present. The legal marriage age in Barbados for both parties is over 16, but if either of you are under the age of 18, then you must have parental consent with both parents being present at the time of applying for the wedding license. If either party was married before or widowed, a certified copy of the final decree or death certificate must be produced. For Jewish couples, you are required to take along your own Rabbi, as there are none on the island.

If you are having a public wedding ceremony, a letter from the magistrate must be obtained from the district court of the parish in which you are to be married, which is where you will need to return after the wedding license has been issued in order for the marriage to be registered. If you are going to be departing Barbados before the certificate is ready, it can easily be sent to your home address upon request, just provide your complete address to the Registry Department with processing fees (money order preferably) enclosed, with a self addressed envelope with return postage and mail it to:
