The most northern Leeward island come alive with eleven days of carnival and boat racing festivities, which promises to be a fun filled and exciting eleven days of celebration garnished with traditional Anguillan hospitality. This festival is a combination of boat-race and sea food with barbeque fiestas during the day, and carnival events at night which fill the air with culture and music, making it a fantastic experience. Summer Festival in Anguilla is a typical Caribbean emancipation celebration, which has been taking place long ago. However, the summer festival started with a traditional August Monday fairs, bazaars and over the years get bigger and better with cultural expressions of island life.

These activities are planned by the churches and features wirewalkers, May pole dancers, Mock-a-Jumbies and among games. Today, the summer festival still display the same charm and spirit of those early days of festivities, as the traditional art forms are merged with the modern attractions to create a mass playing and cultural extravaganza, for you to enjoy. Anguilla Summer Festival events feature musical spectaculars, kiddies’ parade and grand parade of troupes, J’ouvert, Miss Anguilla Pageant and bathing suit competition, International Soca and Reggae Night among other exciting events.

All these activities take place at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre, as the summer festival focuses boat racing. This sport has been merged with the cultural aspects of carnival, as the art of boat racing was born out of the Anguillans love and dependence of the sea. During the Anguilla Summer Festival boat racing is filled with carnival action, as the pristine beaches of Sandy Ground and Meads Bay is where the main event takes place. The clear water and unique crispy white sand are soaked and trampled upon by thousands of boat racing fans, picnickers and dozens of visiting yachts and pleasure boats.
