Museo Nacional de Historia y GeografíaThe Museo de Historia y Geografía is located in the beautiful Plaza de la Cultura, Santo Domingo, Dominica Republic. The National Museum of History and Geography entices you to take a journey through an uneven collection of historical memorabilia and geographical adventures. Opened in 1982, the National Museum of History and Geography features three floors that exhibits the wonderful world of Dominican life from 1822 through 1961.

You can explore the history of battles between Haitians and Dominicans, while learning about famous dictator General Ulises Heureaux. Museo de Historia y Geografía provides different content areas of Dominican Republic life. The country's history is highlighted in the wonderful array of exhibits, from its formation to colonial life and independence you can view the many displays that makes National Museum of History and Geography a must visit while in DR.

Explore the rooms of History Room No. 1 to see the pre-Columbian inhabitants of the island of Santo Domingo. History Room No. 2 boasts an amazing historical cartography that preserves the historical heritage of the Dominican Republic of the Republican period to contemporary. While History Room No. 3 serves as a physical link to the history of the Dominican Republic past, so you can enjoy the fun activities of a colorful culture. 

The National Museum of History and Geography offers the public halls of permanent and temporary exhibitions, conferences, documentation center and library. Enter the museum and go to reception, pay for admission and ensure you signed in the guestbook provided.  You are not allowed to take pictures, do not touch the collection, but remember to wear suitable clothing. No food or drink is allowed.

The National Museum of History and Geography is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 am to 4:30, admission is about RD$20.
